THE OBELISK

The metal Obelisk, executed by A.Pomodoro and called "The Lance of Light" is his biggest work.
Formed of 4 elements, 27 melted components another 453 assembled, a general weight of 90 tons, 30 metres in height, more then 13.000 hours of work.
A magnificient work wich has required more then 100 cubic metres of wood, 200 cubic metres of chrome sand from beaches in South Africa, because it sustains the highest temperatures without melting and so is used for the moulds.
Planned and constructed entirely in the steel factory in Terni to celebrate a century of iron metallurgy (1884 - 1984) which has brought  the Terni steel work' in line with the highest world quality.
